2015 NFL Draft: Stefon Diggs Scouting Report
University of Maryland’s Stefon Diggs came out of high school as a top 10 recruit and was poised to bring a title to his hometown. Diggs was a lethal play maker at Maryland but was plagued with injuries his sophomore and junior years. Diggs speed is what sets him apart from most wide receiver prospects in this class.
Strengths
Diggs has the speed and play making ability that sets him apart from others in this class. He is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Maryland lined him up out wide, in the slot and at running back. He is excellent with the ball in his hands, he can make defenders miss in the open field thanks to exceptional quickness.
Here Maryland lines Diggs up at running back and run a triple option with him.
Diggs has good hands for his size, at 6’0 190 lbs. He has great body control to make sideline catches and acrobatic grabs he shouldn’t make. Diggs has scouts viewing as only having “straight line speed” and I believe that is the furthest thing from the truth. Diggs has exceptional quickness and speed that can’t be taken lightly, he is a threat any time he has the ball.

tremendous
body control on this play here.
Diggs has the ability to make an impact on special teams as a returner. He returned two kicks during his freshman campaign but none the next two years. As a situational returner he could help almost every NFL team, some organizations may not want to risk putting him back there cause of his injury concerns.
Weaknesses
Diggs attended the Desean Jackson school of stalk blocking. He seems to have no interest in blocking any defender, he’ll go out and block but doesn’t show any effort in doing so. He also has struggled with injuries at Maryland, Diggs missed 10 games in his 3 year career. Those injuries have some questioning whether he is the same player he once was.
Right now he is not the best of route runners. He seems to round off his cuts instead of planting his foot and attacking the route. That can be worked on at the next level with good coaching. He has a thin frame that may expose him to get pushed around by good NFL corner backs who decide to come up and press him at the line of scrimmage.
Draft Stock
I am higher on Diggs then most people are. Speed kills and that is his best quality. His ability to move around the field and keep the defense on its heels is valuable even as a decoy. His stock right now seems to be slipping into the day 3 portion of the draft. A team with a creative offensive minded coach could do some damage with a player like Stefon Diggs.
