Malcolm Brown, Running Back, Texas

Year: Senior Height: 6’ Weight: 223 lbs

Summary: Texas native Malcolm Brown flashed visions of beast mode in the heads of scouts and general managers during his final season at the University of Texas. A consistently strong runner, Brown breaks the majority of initial tackles he faces at the line. Brown comes from a military family and shows great maturity beyond his years. Coaches say he leads by example and shows strong work ethic.

Strengths: Malcolm Brown shows strong ability to fight for yards and break tackles. He is often used running to the outside, where he shows immense toughness.

Does not “dance” in the backfield and mainly “runs downhill”, showing strong patience.

Has a career yards per run average of 4.3 over four seasons (25 games). Mainly used on stretch plays. Despite only getting four starts his junior year, Brown collected over 900 yds, which was the highest by a Longhorn since Jamaal Charles posted 1,619 in 2007 in 13 total games.

Weaknesses: Does not show top-level speed that many would expect. While he is good at getting to the outside of the tackles, he usually takes the long route, rounding out his path. He averaged 2.9 yards against 9th ranked TCU defense in 2014, but did score a red zone touchdown early in the game.

Brown never put up a 1,000 yd season in his four-year career at Texas, and he played limited snaps his sophomore year. Brown missed eight games in his first two years with recurring foot and ankle injuries, and missed the end of his high school career with an ankle injury, causing some durability concerns.
