David Cobb, Running Back, Minnesota

Year: Senior Height: 5’11” Weight:220 lbs

Summary: Cobb has shown excellent vision and the ability to find holes quickly down the field. His ability to run after contact has consistently proven to be minimum. He proved to be durable his senior year, and set several school rushing records, including rushes and rushing yards.

Strengths: Shows ability to read the field ahead of him and allude one-on-one match-ups. He possesses the ability to catch out of the back field and gain solid receiving yards, despite limited chances. Cobb exhibits quickness despite below his average career 40-time.

He’s not the fastest runner, but has the ability to accelerate in the open field and score.

Cobb rushed for 145 yards (5.4 per) and three touchdowns against the National Champions, Ohio State.

Weaknesses: Cobb shows little to no ability to fight for yards after the hit. College defensive lineman can easily handle him in blocking schemes upfront, leading to questions if he can produce in pass defense at the next level. Cobb does not consistently show the ability to run outside the tackles, limiting his ability to get touches. When he does get outside, he is easily brought down by defensive backs.

This leads him to trying to bounce too much in the backfield, leading to a consistently large loss of yardage.

Cobb only received one rushing attempt and one reception his sophomore year for a grand total of eleven yards.

Records/Awards: Rushed 314 times (single-season record), ran for 1,626 yards (single-season record), and 13 touchdowns (tied for third most in a season)

Pro Comparison: Has identical height/weight attributes compared to Ben Tate, but overall is a poor mans’ Steven Ridley.

Draft Projection: David Cobb projects to be a third round draft pick, with the possibility of slipping due to his lack of strength and aggressiveness in scouting tape.
