Best Pick – Robert Quinn, DE, 14th Overall in 2011
Robert Quinn dropped in the 2011 NFL Draft after sitting out his junior season due to an NCAA investigation regarding improper benefits. His stock dropped slightly, but he has been an absolute terror off the edge for the Rams as they have built of the top defensive lines in the league over the years.
He owns the Ram single season sack record (19) and has posted at least 10 sacks in the past three seasons.
Other selections considered:
Steven Jackson, RB, 24th Overall in 2004
Chris Long, DE, 2nd Overall in 2008
James Laurinaitis, LB, 35th Overall in 2009
Alec Ogletree, LB, 30th Overall in 2013
Aaron Donald, DT, 13th Overall in 2014
Worst Pick – Jason Smith, OT, 2nd Overall in 2009
Jason Smith is a perfect example of a player whose draft stock rose due to media hype. He was a big, athletic tackle praised for his pass blocking ability.
Now, he was a great athlete but he never showed the physicality needed to succeed at the NFL level, and he never gained it once he got to the league. Concussion issues ended his time quickly with the Rams and he was soon traded to the New York Jets.
