Kansas City Chiefs
Best Pick – Jamaal Charles, RB, 73rd Overall in 2008
Arguably the most electrifying back in the game, Jamaal Charles has been a godsend for the Chiefs offense. Charles is a threat to score a touchdown overtime he scores the ball and his been one of the best running backs in the NFL since 2008.
Pretty great value for a running back chosen in the third round of the draft.
Other selections considered:
Jared Allen, DE, 126th Overall in 2004
Derrick Johnson, LB, 15th Overall in 2005
Tamba Hali, LB, 20th Overall in 2006
Eric Berry, S, 5th Overall in 2010
Rodney Hudson, C, 55th Overall in 2011
Justin Houston, LB, 70th Overall in 2011
Dontari Poe, DT, 11th Overall in 2012
Worst Pick(s) – Glenn Dorsey, DT, 5th Overall in 2008/Tyson Jackson, DT/DE, 3rd Overall in 2009
It’s hard to decipher which lineman was a bigger bust for the Chiefs, so both can be placed as the Chiefs worst picks.
Dorsey was an explosive playmaker from the defensive tackle position for the LSU Tigers. However, he was never able to fully show his ability to play from the 3-technique, because the Chiefs quickly switched into a 3-4 scheme. Dorsey was a poor fit for the 3-4 as he didn’t have the length to play the 5-technique, but wasn’t big enough to play the nose tackle spot.
In order to add pieces to their 3-4, the Chiefs spent another top 5 pick on an LSU defensive lineman, this time Tyson Jackson. While Dorsey was misfit in the scheme, Tyson Jackson just didn’t have the skills to be an impact player on the NFL level.
Other selections considered:
