Fantasy Football Sleepers: Jarvis Landry a Must-Own?

facebooktwitterreddit

In this week’s edition of Fantasy Football Sleepers, we explore why Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry needs to be on your roster heading down the final stretch of the season. Whether via trade or on the waiver wire (in the small percentage of leagues he’s still available), you need to find a way to get this rookie receiver from LSU on your roster and into a starting spot immediately.

The “Tannehill Factor”

Much improved, Ryan Tannehill is showing that he has a long future as a starting quarterback in this league. He’s doing what he needs to this season in a big way. If history proves to be right in Tannehill’s case, it’s safe to say he’s going to be dynamic in the final weeks of the year.

  • In his rookie year, he improved greatly in the last stretch of the schedule, something that held true in 2013 as well. He started out the month of December with big wins against the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots – all in games where he had multiple TD passes and a plus-94.0 passer rating.

    Who else?

It’s becoming clear that when the Dolphins are in need of a dynamic play, Landry will be the go-to guy. He’s had at-least five catches in his three previous games, a stretch where he’s averaging eight targets per game.

Surprisingly, Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace have underperformed greatly in the past few weeks. If Landry can capitalize on being the most productive receiving option in Miami, the trust will continue to build between the young QB/WR duo.

    Favorable scheduling

In their next four games, the Dolphins won’t see a top-10 secondary. With struggling units in the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens on the upcoming schedule, Landry is going to have opportunities to shine. Two games against the Jets still await, but chances will come in the crowded Miami offense.
