Oregon vs. Utah: 5 Players to Watch for NFL Draft
By Joe Wedra
In today’s Oregon vs. Utah matchup, several 2015 NFL Draft prospects will be taking the stage to show off their skills to scouts. Based on previous numbers, we can project that there will be at-least a half-dozen NFL teams present to see what these guys can do on today’s big stage.
Here’s your “cheat sheet” when watching this matchup:
WHEN OREGON IS ON OFFENSE…
Ducks QB Marcus Mariota: 6’4″, 210lb — Projected top-5 pick
This can be yet another statement game for Mariota to prove he’s ready to take the big leap to the NFL. He’s been showing that he can handle elite defenses, but this test will be one of his biggest all season. Let’s see what he can do with his deep-ball today.
Ducks OT Jake Fisher: 6’6″, 300lb — Projected mid-round pick
This senior lineman is an intriguing prospect. He’s shown that he can be a legitimate threat at the next level, but his balance and leverage concern me at times. If he completely holds up in this one, expect scouts to give him a boost in their rankings.
Utes EDGE Nate Orchard: 6’4″, 255lb — Projected mid-round pick
I still personally need to see more of Orchard, so this game will be a nice spot to get a feel for what he’s all about. I can tell you, however that many of my great friends over on #DraftTwitter are very high on the senior EDGE rusher. He had a four-sack game against UCLA earlier in the season.
WHEN UTAH IS ON OFFENSE…
Ducks DL Arik Armstead: 6’7″, 295lb — Day two pick
(NOTE: Questionable to play with an ankle injury.)
If you’re looking for size, you’ll enjoy watching Armstead today. He isn’t extremely impressive, but he has the tools and general traits to be a hot name on NFL Draft boards. Look for the Utes to attack him tonight, as he’s battling a bit of an ankle issue. This game shouldn’t be a total gauge on his overall play, but if he has a disruptive and tough game, you can put a check in the toughness column.
Ducks CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu: 5’9″, 195lb — Potential first-round pick
Don’t be fooled by his height – Olomu plays a very spirited game. He’s one of the many Ducks defensive prospects to watch, but he’s the one with the most on the line today. He’s been knocked on not being able to keep up with receivers, so he’ll have to show he can compete with the best. Keep your eye on Ekpre-Olomu for an interesting night.
