Everything seemed good when the Philadelphia Eagles were winning, but recent events have revealed the team isn’t as united as their record may indicate.  Reports inside the organization reveal that even prior to his broken collarbone, a number of Eagles executives had soured on quarterback Nick Foles as the long-term answer under center.

It’s important to remember that Foles was not a selection by current head coach Chip Kelly.  He was inherited from the Andy Reid administration and was the best option available.  What happened was he played so well last year (27 touchdown to two interceptions) that everybody thought he was a budding superstar.  After throwing 13 touchdowns to 10 interceptions this season, it’s clear he may have been fools gold.

The point is moot now.  Foles could miss the rest of the season, leaving the offense in the hands of veteran backup Mark Sanchez.  While he has the confidence of Kelly and a productive history during his early days in New York, he too doesn’t offer much long-term security.  This is why several sources hint that GM Howie Roseman may be on the lookout for a quarterback early in the 2015 NFL draft.

There would be a number of options open to them.  Certainly Kelly would love nothing better than to land Oregon star Marcus Mariota but that isn’t feasible given the record the Philadelphia Eagles sit at.  Still, there will be others including Jameis Winston of Florida State, Connor Cook of Michigan State and Brett Hundley of UCLA who could be available.
