The 2015 NFL draft could prove a big one for the Washington Redskins. Where will they focus their efforts based on roster needs?
Brandon Meriweather saga needs to end
In spite of the injury to DeAngelo Hall, it seems the Redskins finally have something cooking at the cornerback position with the pairing of David Amerson and Bashaud Breeland. Their shutting down of the Dallas Cowboys was a clear sign of their upside and skill as cover men for the future. If that’s true then the team may very well be one piece away from forging a truly difference-making secondary. Hopefully one that doesn’t include Brandon Meriweather. Both he and Ryan Clark have proven unreliable at best in coverage for the team. In order to bring everything together they need a playmaker on the back end who isn’t old or isn’t a loose cannon.
Best Answer To Problem: Landon Collins – SS- Alabama
Can one imagine if the Washington Redskins brass were able to bring in Landon Collins. There is little doubt the Alabama safety is the best in the country at his position (by far) but he may also be the best defensive player period. He has the size and strength to tackle and deliver good hits in run support but retains the instinct and range to pick off passes in coverage. He is a rare versatile type who can patrol the back end or drop down in the box to plug running lanes. Putting him behind Amerson and Breeland could potential give the Redskins a secondary to rival Seattle one day.
Granted, that might sound like a stretch but the possibilities are vast. Much will depend on what happens with Robert Griffin III and the offense over the final eight weeks of the regular season.
