Many NFL draft experts believe the running back position is dead as far as 1st round quality goes. Tell that to Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon.
Gurley keys Georgia rout of Vanderbilt
It would seem after their disappointing loss a few weeks ago that the Georgia Bulldogs have awakened to a very simple fact. The success of their team runs through the enormous talents of running back Todd Gurley. That was proven yet again as the Heisman trophy hopeful continued his 2014 domination by scoring the first two touchdowns of their game against Vanderbilt. This fast start resulted in an easy 44-17 victory. Gurley finished with 187 total yards. He is currently averaging 8.2 yards per carry for the season, against SEC competition no less. That should be clear validation of just how good he is.
Huge Gordon game can’t save Wisconsin from upset
After somewhat of a slow start to the season, Melvin Gordon has played like a man possessed over the past three weeks. For the second time in less than a month the Wisconsin running back rocketed over 250 yards on the ground, notching 259 against Northwestern. He also has eight touchdowns in that same stretch. Unfortunately his superb performance somehow wasn’t enough for the Badgers, who were stunned 20-14 by the Wildcats. It’s an unfortunate turn of events for the program in their bowl chase, but for Gordon his run at the Heisman is suddenly alive and well.
The NFL draft has been a running back wasteland for years. Expect Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon to change that next April.
