For the Alabama Crimson Tide, all the talk this season offensively has surrounded first round lock Amari Cooper at wide receiver, but scouts aren’t forgetting about the guy throwing him the ball, senior quarterback Blake Sims.
Through four games this season, Sims has been phenomenal in Lane Kiffin’s offense with 1,091 yards passing, completing 73.2 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns compared to only two interceptions. He’s also got two rushing touchdowns on the year.
The 6’0″ 208 pound quarterback prospect has opened the door for an NFL future this season, making good decisions and showing a very accurate, lively arm. When you watch the Amari Cooper highlights, it’s easy to only notice a guy making catches and plays after the catch, but the ball’s getting there somehow.
He’s currently battling a shoulder injury, but has a chance against the 11th ranked Ole Miss Rebels this Saturday to prove that he’s worthy of some real NFL hype.
Right now, he’s doing a great job of getting rid of the ball quickly, allowing the Alabama offense to flow and he’s not making many mistakes or poor throws. He has a long ways to go if he wants to jump into the discussion as a first or second day player, but I don’t think that’s out of the question. It’s still early.
Whatever ends up happening, this is a player worth keeping tabs on as Alabama and Ole Miss are set to clash in one of the biggest games of the early college season.
