In case you’re unable to be watching right now, 2015 NFL Draft Watch is back on for Wisconsin Melvin Gordon on Saturday afternoon after he was shut down by Western Illinois two weeks ago with just 2.2 yards per carry.
In the Badgers’ impending rout of Bowling Green, Gordon is knee deep in a first half — important to not forget that — performance in which he has 11 carries for 179 yards and four touchdowns. You didn’t read any of that wrong. Nearly scoring a touchdown on 50 percent of his touches in this game, Wisconsin’s star back and Heisman hopeful is absolutely going buck wild against Bowling Green, taking out two weeks of aggression from one of the worst rushing performances of his career.
Gordon also has one catch for five yards, obviously a play in which he was slacking or not caring much about.
Place this guy firmly back on the map after his strong game against LSU was overshadowed by a loss and the fact that he was vastly under-utilized.
This is a player that has an incredible combination of speed, size, vision, and breakaway ability. He is sure to be an NFL star as soon as he enters the league, and has one of the best work ethics you’ll find in college football.
One thing that I noticed about him in his RS Sophomore season at Wisconsin (2013) was the fact that despite being well-built, Gordon’s frame wasn’t filled out enough to be a full-time NFL back. Apparently, he felt the same way, and he got absolutely rocked up over the offseason.
You can tell Gordon has made significant physical changes in the way he plays. He’s able to run up the middle and slip through tackles, but also maintain his cutting ability, agility, and elusiveness. That is fully on display Saturday, as he’s just making Bowling Green defenders look absolutely silly.
You’ve got to love Melvin Gordon, one of the most exciting players in all of college football, putting on a clinic Saturday.
