2015 NFL Draft Prospects: Amari Cooper – Round One?
By Joe Wedra
Amari Cooper is one of the top 2015 NFL Draft prospects coming from this year’s class, and he proved that he’s ready to take the next step in the Alabama Crimson Tide’s game against Florida Atlantic.
At the time of publishing, Cooper had reeled in 97 yards over six catches and a touchdown in the FIRST QUARTER ALONE. Many around the league are beginning to take notice, as are relevant talent evaluators.
SEC speed, indeed.
Cooper is part of a class that has good talent, but not nearly as impressive as the 2014 group. He has crisp route-running abilities that will translate to being an effective possession receiver in the NFL. His speed has been a bit of a question to some, but he’s proven this year that he’s ready to roll when it comes to breaking off on routes and being a true YAC guy.
The Junior has competition around him with guys like Sammie Coats and Jaelen Strong, but Cooper can solidify his first round grade with a continued big season. In fact, West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen says he could potentially emerge as the top pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, via NFL.com:
"“(Cooper) might be the first overall pick in the draft,” Holgorsen said, according to WVU’s transcript of his Tuesday news conference. “He was a really good player. He got his. He caught the ball, and he got open. (WVU CB) Daryl (Worley) held his own. Daryl held his own, and Daryl is going to be a great player for us.”"
