The New York Jets selected tight end Jace Amaro with the 49th pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Scheme Fit

Everybody talks about potential at the draft but there is something to be said for guys who produce too.  Jace Amaro was the best pass catching tight end in college football.  He’s 6’6″, can run, has soft hands and is plenty physical to deal with press coverage from tougher defenses.  Not the greatest athlete but at that size it shouldn’t matter much.

My Reaction

The New York Jets did the right thing.  They needed more offensive firepower and tight end was at the top of their list.  Amaro should be able to start right away and offer a great red zone option if anything else.  If his coaches figure out what he does best, he should offer constant mismatches down the middle of the field.

Grade:  A
