Johnny Manziel is 21 years old. He is the most famous college athlete in America. And now, he might just be the next best thing in the NFL.

Manziel has declared his intentions to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, a move that many saw coming.

“After long discussions with my family, friends, teammates, and coaches, I have decided to make myself available for the 2014 NFL Draft,” Manziel said. “The decision was such a tough one for me because of how much I wanted to go back and be with all those guys that I love playing with, and to work with Coach (Kevin) Sumlin and Coach (Jake Spavital) Spav and be part of a program that’s continuing to grow. But I felt like this is what’s best for me now.

“I feel very relieved. It’s a weight off my shoulders. I’m ready to become a professional and dedicate myself to making my dream a reality of becoming the best quarterback I can be.”

Manziel is one of my favorite prospects in the entire 2014 NFL draft. He is the type of guy that people either love or love to hate, and he’s going to take the NFL by storm. Manziel isn’t a 6’5″ 230 pound ideally sized QB prospect, but he’s got big hands, he’s one of the most charismatic young athletes in the world, and he is an exciting playmaker.

Perhaps most importantly, Manziel made huge strides as a pocket passer in his sophomore season, and the trajectory he is on as a player is extremely positive.

If Manziel dedicates himself off the field, and many out there will tell you that there are few guys that work harder, I think he has a chance not only to be a top 10 pick, but to be next year’s offensive rookie of the year.

It’s ridiculously early to be calling that, but if I were running an NFL franchise I’d be eager to get my hands on this kid. He has the makings of a special player.
