In a bit of a surprising move, Ole Miss wide receiver Donte Moncrief has declared his intentions to enter the 2014 NFL Draft.

“After meeting with Coach Freeze and looking at all available information, my family and I have decided that I will declare for the draft,” Moncrief said. “I appreciate all the support I have received over the last three years from the fans, my coaches and teammates. I have had an awesome experience at Ole Miss and plan to support Rebel Nation until I die. At this time, I have to do what is best for my family and I, and I am ready to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL.”

Moncrief had a solid junior season, catching 59 passes for 938 yards and six touchdowns, showing off some big play ability. At about 6’2″ 226 pounds, Moncrief has all the physical measurables you look for in a wide receiver prospect. He has solid ability after the catch and is pretty tough to track down when he hits his second gear.

In a draft that is littered with talent at the wide receiver position, it’s a bit surprising to see Moncrief enter his name but at the same time, I think he could still be a second or third round draft pick.

This draft is shaping up to be one of the best in recent years in terms of overall talent at the wide receiver position, and Moncrief’s announcement fortifies that further.

Moncrief finishes his college career with 156 catches for 2,371 yards and 20 touchdowns.
