Rookie–Lane Johnson, OT

Was their really any question about this one? At this point, to my knowledge, there is not another rookie the Eagles drafted that is penned in as a starter for week one besides Lane Johnson, who was their top pick in 2013 and for good reason.

The Eagles allowed 48 sacks last season, and they only were able to muster up 10 rushing touchdowns all season. That all figures to change with some players on the front line coming back healthy, as well as the huge addition of Lane Johnson. This is one of the more athletically talented people you will find in America or anywhere else. He is a massive man who has played quarterback, tight end, and offensive tackle, and he ran a blistering 40 yard dash at the Combine for his size.

That doesn’t alter the fact, though, that he’s a pretty darn good tackle, and will be blocking Mike Vick’s blind side as a rookie. The Eagles are going to start Johnson off at right tackle, a position of paramount importance for their playoff aspirations in 2013. If Johnson can help improve that sack number (48 is atrocious) then I think the Eagles have a shot of being playoff contenders out of the NFC East in Chip Kelly’s first year as head coach.
