So you thought David DeCastro was the best guard prospect to come along in years? Think again. According to Todd McShay at ESPN, Alabama guard Chance Warmack is every bit as good–and then some.
McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. updated their big board rankings after the first two weeks of college football, and Warmack is at number two on McShay’s list (Insider).
Apparently this is no change to McShay’s lis, which says he had Warmack at the number two slot in his previous big board update, but this is the first time I’ve seen this. McShay says that Warmack is a rare guard prospect worth using a top 10 selection on. That’s a pretty bold statement, but he obviously believes the 6’3″ 325 pounder is going to be a perennial Pro Bowl caliber player.
There’s certainly no denying one thing: Alabama’s offensive line is full of NFL talent, and if Warmack is managing to stand out on tape, he is really doing something right. He’s a smart interior lineman who can be a good fit in any offense in the NFL.
North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper is also in McShay’s top 13 players, so this is obviously a good class of guards, potentially. Alabama CB Dee Milliner is the only other member of the Crimson Tide on McShay’s new top 32.
