Top Friday NFL Headlines: Colts Sign Luck and Other Thoughts

On Thursday, the Indianapolis Colts locked up top pick Andrew Luck for $22.1 million, getting him signed, sealed, and delivered before training camp. This is great news for Colts fans, but not so great for other NFL teams. The fact that the top two picks in the draft are locked in for deals before many of the other first round picks and even still some third and second round picks is pretty ridiculous.

In other NFL news, Mike Vick thinks the Philadelphia Eagles could be the next NFL dynasty. Certainly, the Eagles look like a good NFL team and last year, many were printing them tickets to the Super Bowl before they even stepped onto the field, but a dynasty? I would think after last season’s “Dream Team” incident that the Eagles would be more prone to back off of cheap talk. There’s nothing wrong with Vick having confidence in his team, but let’s be real for a minute.

Speaking of dynasties, I think a better bet for that would be the Green Bay Packers, who have a quarterback under 30 years old, a Super Bowl, and one of the best front offices in the NFL.

Another NFL player has gotten drunk, gotten behind the wheel of a car, and not gotten away with it. St. Louis Rams defensive end Robert Quinn is facing charges after being involved in a one-car accident followed by a drunken driving charge.

Quinn is supposed to be a big part of the Rams’ rebuild. He is a very talented defensive end prospect who had five sacks a season ago, and should pair with Chris Long to be one of the top tandems in the league. He was the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft after being suspended his final season at North Carolina. If I were him, I’d stay away from the club and find something better to do, or at least call the team’s designated driver.
