Former Georgia RB Isaiah Crowell Heading to Alabama State

Alabama State head coach Reggie Barlow announced on Thursday that Isaiah Crowell, the former Georgia Bulldogs running back, would be joining his team’s roster for the 2012 season.

“We got an opportunity to recruit Isaiah, and I imagine a lot of other teams were recruiting him as well,” Barlow said. “But his family, they’ve made a decision that they are going to come to Alabama State University. He has been admitted into the university. He’s registered for class and he will be starting class on Monday.”

Crowell was dumb enough to get into huge trouble with the law, but at least he’s smart enough to keep his future in mind. He was arrested merely a week ago on a felony charge of possessing a weapon on school grounds. From what I’ve heard about certain parts of Georgia, having a gun is completely necessary, but Crowell has to be smarter than this and if he or anybody driving his car is taking precautions to keep himself safe, he should get his weapons registered and do it the right way.

He faces a potential sentence of two to 10 years for his infraction, which he denies having any knowledge of the gun in the first place, saying that other people drive his car.

As for the football side of things, Crowell is a fantastic athlete and was one of the top players in the SEC last year as a true freshman. He is a high impact player who obviously needed to get in with a new crowd of people. Perhaps moving to Alabama State will help jump start that aspect of his life, and give him a clean slate. This is not the first time Crowell has had disciplinary problems, but it’s a good indicator of just where his life is heading. How you carry yourself off the field is as important if not more important, especially in college where you have a three-four year job interview.
