Well, what so many college football fans have been longing for for years is finally going to come to fruition. Now, instead of the regular BCS system, officials have approved a four team playoff that will be determined by yet another selection process. Now that fans have a taste of what it’s like to have playoffs in college football, the natural reaction is to wonder why in the world they are only having four teams.

The biggest hurdles they face from this now are going to be obviously pleasing everyone, as well as making sure every team has a fair shot at this four-team playoff. Teams like Boise State and the like may still have a tough time getting into this playoff system unless they schedule tough out-of-conference matchups.

This 12 year agreement will consist of six bowl games rotating as the hosts for the semi-finals, and then the championship game will be bid out separate from those games.

Certainly, this will be something interesting to watch starting in a couple of years.

“We recognize that the BCS has been controversial in some years, but we also believe it has turned college football from a regional sport into a wonderfully popular national sport, much to the benefit of our alumni, student-athletes and fans,” the twelve members of the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee said in a joint statement.  “We now seek to build an even better college football season by creating a four-team playoff to crown the national champion, while protecting the regular season and the bowl experience.

“We’re delighted to support this format and congratulate the group of conference commissioners who have done so much for college football and who worked so hard to make this happen.”
