Ochocinco Signs with the Miami Dolphins is the team Sour on Clyde Gates
Today’s big NFL News was that former Bengals and Patriots Wide Receiver, Chad Ochocinco has signed with the Miami Dolphins. The move does not come as a big surprise as Ochocinco has said previously that it was his dream to someday play for the Miami Dolphins and G.M. Jeff Ireland has said that the WR position could use depth. Something I was not privy to was that the team might be displeased with last year’s 4th round pick Clyde Gates.
I caught this little nugget from Evan Silva
Clydge Gates did not have a good year as a WR last year, where even though he was active for 15 games he only had 2 catches for 19 yards. But apparently Gates, or many of the other young Wide Receivers haven’t really impressed new coach Joe Philbin yet either. From the Sun sentinel
“The Dolphins were also hopeful that at least one of the young receivers – Clyde Gates, Roberto Wallace, Marlon Moore, Julius Pruitt, or one of the five rookies – would step to the forefront, establishing himself as a potential playmaker. But that hasn’t happened in the week’s leading up to next month’s start of training camp.”
What also can not go unmentioned is that the team traded their most productive WR, Brandon Marhsall to Chicago prior to the draft. The Dolphins make a lot of sense for Ochocinco because this is one place where he might have an inside track at a starting job and re-establishing himself, and as previously mentioned he grew up in Miami and always wanted to play there.
Will this move be good for the Dolphins though? I can only see him improving his numbers off of a very unimpressive season with the Patriots. On the other hand, how much of a chance does Ryan Tannehill have with this WR corps, is there one worse in the National Football League.
