NFL Hopeful Brian Banks Getting a Shot with the Seattle Seahawks
For Brian Banks, the road to the NFL has been unlike any other player in the league has experienced, but if all is well in the end, it will surely have been worth the wait.
After having years of his life taken away and altered by a wrongful imprisonment as a teenager, Banks was released after his accuser dropped the allegations of which he was convicted, and at age 26, he is finally getting a shot to make an NFL roster in Seattle.
When he was coming out of high school, Banks was a big, rangy linebacker prospect who had originally committed to Pete Carroll at USC, and though he wasn’t a high profile prospect, he certainly made an impression on the former USC and current Seattle coach, enough that he was offered and accepted a tryout at the team’s upcoming minicamp, which will take place June 12-14th.
Banks obviously showed out well in a tryout he had with Seattle, because there is virtually no upside to giving him a shot otherwise. Carroll also noted that Banks might have a serious shot of making the roster, which is pretty incredible considering he hasn’t played ball since high school.
If Banks is able to make the Seahawks, it could be the story of the year in professional sports. He has previously proclaimed that he would surprise people with how athletic he is despite being incarcerated for so long, and it would be absolutely incredible if he is able to come out of camp with a shot of making the roster and competing in training camp and the pre-season. Who knows if his skills will translate to an NFL field, but you have to be rooting for this guy. This is simply an incredible story.
