Time for Jake Locker to Take Over for the Tennessee Titans
In 2011, the Tennessee Titans made a somewhat surprising move when they used a top 10 pick on Washington quarterback Jake Locker, even though there were some who believed that he might not even be a first round pick after struggling in his senior year.
Locker is an immensely talented player with poise and leadership to go along with excellent athletic ability and a really strong arm. He really is the total package, he’s just never been able to put it all together for a full season. Appearing in a handful of games last year, Locker looked really good for the Titans and I think 2012 will be the year he takes a strangle-hold on the starting quarterback position, and bring the Titans the quarterback of the future they have been hoping for since the late Steve McNair left town.
The Titans have the potential to have a very exciting offense with Locker at the helm, and guys like Kenny Britt coming back, Kendall Wright joining the fray, and Chris Johnson hopefully returning to form. Quietly, this team is putting together a very good looking roster on paper, but they have to get it done on the field.
I believe Locker is the guy that gives them the best chance to win. He only completed about 51 percent of his passes last year, but he threw for 542 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. The Titans didn’t win a single game in which Locker had significant action, but they certainly appeared to be more competitive in a few of the situations.
Locker is a good dual-threat quarterback who brings hope to a Tennessee franchise that was not too far away from the playoffs last year, but they also weren’t too far away from selling the farm for former division rival Peyton Manning either. The team needs to put a big vote of confidence into the quarterback they paid a very high price for, and it’s Locker time for the Tennessee Titans if you ask me.
