NFL News and Notes: Fantastic Read on Notre Dame
One of my new favorite sites Smart Football, has an excellent breakdown on Notre Dame, check it out.
The San Francisco 49ers 5th round pick, Darius Fleming has torn his A.C.L.
Greg Cosell dishes out some post-draft thoughts
“The AFC team whose draft caught my attention was the Cincinnati Bengals. Let’s start with their second pick of the first round: Kevin Zeitler, the offensive guard from Wisconsin. I don’t know how the Bengals felt about the Zeitler/David DeCastro comparison, and we’ll likely never know because DeCastro had already been selected by the Steelers, but I felt that Zeitler was the more athletic and more complete guard prospect. Zeitler was very efficient in the zone-run game with his quick feet and sustained movement. He’s an excellent fit for the Bengals.”
Alfonzo Dennard has waived his preliminary hearing on his assault charge
Dennard is accused of striking an officer during a disturbance outside a Lincoln bar April 21, five days before the NFL draft started. He was the 2011 Big Ten defensive back of the year and had been projected to be a second-or third-round pick before his arrest.
If convicted, he could face five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
I didn’t realize his penalty could be so severe. I find it unlikely that Dennard spends any time in jail, just doesn’t seem to work out that way too often.
Rob Rang writes about the Chiefs and the potential of 7th round pick Jerome Long.
There will also be a significant adjustment needed for today’s subject of Finding the Fits, the Chiefs’ first of two seventh-round picks, San Diego State defensive lineman Jerome Long.
Unlike the No. 11 overall pick of the draft, Long was drafted because of his production rather than his potential. The 6-5, 290-pounder finished second among all defensive linemen in the Mountain West Conference with an average of 5.6 tackles per game. He finished the year with 73 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five sacks.
That should be plenty to keep you busy. Especially if you check out the Notre Dame information.
