Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign Former Rutgers DT Eric LeGrand to 90 Man Roster
I love a feel good story as much as the next guy, but this one will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, and just might even bring a tear to your eye.
Former Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, who was paralyzed on the field in 2010 in a game against Army, has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New Bucs head coach Greg Schiano coached LeGrand at Rutgers, where he was paralyzed from the neck down but has served as an inspirational captain for the team, and has progressed in his recovery much quicker than anyone could have expected.
“Leading up to the draft, I couldn’t help but think that this should’ve been Eric’s draft class,” said Schiano. “This small gesture is the least we could do to recognize his character, spirit, and perseverance. The way Eric lives his life epitomizes what we are looking for in Buccaneer Men.”
LeGrand will graduate next fall and is pursuing a career in broadcasting, and this moment is just one of many that have brought this young man’s courage and heart to the forefront.
Such a classy move by the Buccaneers organization and head coach Greg Schiano.
