5th Round: Love/Hate + Biggest Surprises

facebooktwitterreddit

Love: Chris Greenwood to the Lions…. Josh Chapman to the Colts….Malik Jackson to Denver….Tank Carder to Buffalo….DeQuan Menzie to the Chiefs…Senio Kelemente to the Cardinals…Josh Kaddu to the Dolphins…Ryan Miller to Cleveland…Marvin Jones to Cincy…Juron Criner to the Raiders.

Hate: Taylor Thompson to the Titans….Danny Coale to the Cowboys… Dennis Kelly to the Eagles…Brandon Marshall to the Jags…Randol Bullock to the Texans (just because he’s a kicker)

(Not a lot to hate, this round points out the depth in this draft class.  Lots of good value all over the board.)

Biggest Surprises:

  • Korey Toomer to the Seahawks at 154.  He’s a late-riser that some services had as a 3rd round grade.  Outstanding pro day got him visits with 12 teams.  Can play ILB or OLB.  6-2, 235 with 4.5 speed.  The Seahawks have gotten younger and faster in their LB core, which was their stated objective coming into the draft.  With KJ Wright, Bobby Wagner and now Toomer, they have 3 fast, big, rangy guys who can play all 3 positions.
  • Chris Rainey to the Steelers.  He’s a very un-Steeler like pick.  Small, limited in what he can do, but oh so good at what that is.  He’s lightning quick, and could be an outstanding counter punch to the Steelers physical running game.
  • The Remaining Players:  Hard to believe that Billy Winn, DT, Boise St….Cam Johnson, DE, Virginia…. Chris Polk, RB, Washington… Alfonso Dennard, CB, Nebraska…David Molk, C, Michigan….are still on the board.  Off-field issues and medical reports are affecting some, but there is some great potential value there.
  • The Bengals:  They are having an outstanding draft.  Hard to believe.  Revel in it, Bengals fans.  They are seriously buiding something there, and are being rewarded for showing rare patience with Marvin Lewis.
