With the 56th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Here is our report on Adams

Pros:

3 Year Starter

Has played both RT and LT

Huge Mountain of a man

Brings some nastiness to the line

Very durable player

Has played top competition

Dominate Run Blocker

Long arms capable of keeping defenders from body

Moves to the second level well

Athletic

 Very long

Cons:

Is he too slow to play LT in the NFL?

Has had off the field problems

His height leaves him prone to playing high often

The combine has brought about questions about his strength with his 19 bench press reps

Enough range as a blocker?

  Player Comparison:           Anthony Davis

Round Projection:               Mid 1st to mid 2nd Round

 Summary:

Mike Adams is a load on the OL.  While he plays LT at Ohio State he is a RT only in the NFL.  I love his disposition in the run game but if I was an NFL GM I would be worried about three things with this kid.  One he can only play one position which hurts.  Two his height can be a problem with his stance.  Three he is an off the field head ache. He could go even higher if he interviews well and answers some of the questions that will be out there about him (he was suspended as part of the Ohio State scandal).

Adams has played really well since coming back from the suspension, probably the best play of his career, which is why I’ve (Jesse) adjusted his round value from mid mid round two to 1st round, he’s showed more range and has just been a good player.

Pick Grade: B

The Steelers got a fantastic value here if Adams can stay out of trouble. I like this pick a lot.
