With the 42nd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Big offensive tackle prospect who will undoubtedly be on the radar as one of the top finalist candidates for the Lombardi award, as well as on All-American radar. This is a guy whose game projects very well to the NFL level. He excels in both the running game as well as the passing game, where Stanford averaged over 211 yards rushing in 2010, and allowed the 2nd fewest amount of sacks in the nation. He is a big athletic guy with a ton of upside. The question is whether or not he will leave school early for the NFL Draft, and if he keeps this pace up, it might be hard to turn down the opportunity. He is already being regarded as a potential top 10 pick next year.

Pros--Good upper body strength, uses his hands really well, good frame, very smart kid, not an elite athlete, but he can hold his own, good knee bender, helped protect Andrew Luck’s blind side the last couple of years

Cons--needs to improve his footwork, slightly susceptible to fast pass rushers, often will let guys get into his body, but can compensate with solid upper body strength

Pick Grade: A

The Dolphins get some more protection on the right side for their new franchise quarterback investment in Ryan Tannehill. Jonathan Martin is another player who should not still be on the board but some consistency issues pushed him down. The OL is starting to look like a major area of strength for the Dolphins.
