Pittsburgh Steelers Select David DeCastro, OG, Stanford Live 2012 NFL Draft Grade
With the 24th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have selected David DeCastro, OG, Stanford
Here is our analysis on DeCastro:
Pros:
Great size
3 year starter
Equally good at run and pass blocking
Very intelligent
NFL chiseled Body
Great lower body strength
Consistently dominates every snap in every game
Team Leader
Gets to second level well
Able to hit Linebackers on the move consistently
Can handle NT almost one on one for an entire game
Defenders simply avoid him
Cons:
Not a very violent puncher
Doesn’t have a perfect bend
Doesn’t play a premium position, so stock could dip a bit because of that
Player Comparison: Will Shields
Round Projection: Mid 1st Round
Summary:
Simply put DeCastro has virtually no flaws in his game or in his personality. He should be protecting the president. He has dominated every game I have scouted. He has handled big DT’s with no problem such as Alemeda Ta’Amu and he has dominated quicker DT’s as well. He gets to the second level quickly and demolishes second level defenders which allows for many big plays. Every team could use him but I don’t see him lasting past early 20’s and he could be a top 10-15 pick due to his talent. Teams such as Titans, Chiefs, Chargers, Cowboys, Bucs, Lions, and Texans will look to pick this kid up.
NFLmocks preseason bio
One of the reasons Stanford’s offense is so successful in so many different ways is the play of its offensive line. In a way, Andrew Luck has been really spoiled as a quarterback with three All-Conference linemen in front of him. DeCastro is probably the top guard prospect heading into the 2011 season, and could play two more years at Stanford should he choose. Very talented run blocker, and also developing into an excellent pass protector. Will be an instant starter in the NFL.
Live Draft Grade: A+
This is an awesome value for the Steelers, who desperately needed help on the offensive line. DeCastro is one of my top rated players in this entire draft.
