2012 NFL Mock Draft 7th Round
7 25 232 New York Jets (from Denver Broncos)-Bobby Rainey, RB, Western Kentucky
Riley Reiff OL; Ta’amu NT; Bruce Irvin OLB; Juron Criner WR; Asa Jackson CB; TJ. Graham WR; Shawn Powell P;
The most productive running back in college football ends up on a team that really needs a guy who can produce.
7 26 233 Houston Texans-Eric Page, WR, Toledo
Previous picks: Rueben Randle WR; Mychal Kendricks LB; Brandon Brooks G; Trevor Guyton DE; Tim Fugger OLB; Philip Thomas, S
Eric Page will be a special teams demon and good slot WR. Page has become a forgotten man, but at one point was considered a mid-round prospect.
7 27 234 New Orleans Saints-Coty Sensabaugh, DB, Clemson
Previous picks: Josh Chapman, DL; Tom Compton OL; Omar Bolden CB; Junior Hemingway WR;
Sensabaugh is a terrific athlete. I think the Saints secondary is sub-par so it should be a focus in the N.F.L. draft. The 5’11 CB ran a 4.42 forty yard dash at the combine. Plenty of talent for the Saints to coach up.
7 28 235 Green Bay Packers-Alex Hoffman-Ellis, LB, Washington State
Previous pick: LB Luke Kuechly; DL Brandon Thompson, Robert Turbin RB; Leonard Johnson CB; Philip Blake C; Antonio Allen S; Randy Bullock K; Dale Moss WR;
The Packers take a defender from a smaller school to play MLB. The Packers have so many picks in this draft.
7 29 236 Baltimore Ravens-Najed Goode, LB, West Virginia
Previous picks: Cordy Glenn OL; Bernard Pierce RB, Brian Quick WR, Senio Kelemete OL; Bretty Roy OLB; B.J. Coleman QB; Justin Bethel S;
I was looking for the Ravens to take a inside linebacker to mold into a starter for a few rounds, but this is the first time I thought it was good value Goode.
7 30 237 San Francisco 49ers- Jordan White, WR, Western Michigan
Previous picks: Kevin Zeitler OL; Jamel Fleming CB, Zebrie Sanders; Jarius Wright WR; Jonathan Massaquoi OLB; Nicolas Jean BaptiseNT;
The big bodied White is still available here and the 49ers take him even though he might have a bit of an uhpill battle to make the roster as a WR.
7 31 238 Kansas City Chiefs (from New England Chiefs) Winston Guy Jr. S, Kentucky
Winston Guy reminds me a bit of Bob Sanders, but not as talented. Guy Jr. is my personal best player available here. Guy was extremely productive at Kentucky in 2011. 120 tackles with 14 tackles for loss is insane production for a safety.
7 32 239 New York Giants-Donnie Fletcher, DB, Boston College
Previous picks: Stephen Hill WR; Kelechi Osmele OL; Tyrone Crawford DE, Edwin Baker RB, Audie Cole LB; Kevin Koger TE;
The Giants safety situation is scary. Right now the depth is really just Tyler Sash and some scrubs. The Giants might consider a safety as high as the first round with Harrison Smith and I’d be stunned if they don’t come away with at least one safety.
7 33 240 Pittsburgh Steelers- (Compensatory Selection)-Rishaw Johnson, California Pa
Previous picks: Dont’a Hightower LB; LaMichael James RB; Brandon Mosley OT; Brandon Hardin S; DeAngelo Peterson TE; Nick Foles QB; Tashuan Gipson CB;
Rishaw Johnson is more talented than a late 7th round guy, but he has the dreaded “character concerns” label so he falls in the draft. The Steelers aren’t really a team known for taking character concern guys, but in the 7th round every team is a little more lenient of those issues.
7 34 241 Green Bay Packers (Compensatory Selection)-Chandler Harnish, QB, Northern Illinois
Previous pick: LB Luke Kuechly; DL Brandon Thompson, Robert Turbin RB; Leonard Johnson CB; Philip Blake C; Antonio Allen S; Randy Bullock K; Dale Moss WR; Alex Hoffman Ellis LB;
Is Harnish the next Matt Flynn? A QB the Packers develop and could trade for a big pick later?
7 35 242 New York Jets (Compensatory Selection)-Josh Chichester, TE, Louisville
Previous picks: Riley Reiff OL; Ta’amu NT; Bruce Irvin OLB; Juron Criner WR; Asa Jackson CB; T.J. Graham WR; Shawn Powell P; Bobby Rainey, CB;
Josh chichester is a TE/WR hybrid. I like Chichester though he must get much stronger. He might be an instant red zone threat in his rookie season.
7 36 243 Green Bay (Compensatory Selection)–Christian Thompson, S, South Carolina State
previous picks: LB Luke Kuechly; DL Brandon Thompson, Robert Turbin RB; Leonard Johnson CB; Philip Blake C; Antonio Allen S; Randy Bullock K; Dale Moss WR; Alex Hoffman Ellis LB; Chandler Harnish, QB
Looking back on the mock I have for the Packers I’d expect them to take more offensive players maybe one other offensive linemen and probably one more WR or running back. Nick Collins future is still in question so the Packers need to make sure they have enough talent on safety.
7 37 244 New York Jets (Compensatory Selection)-Case Keenum, QB, Houston
Previous picks: Riley Reiff OL; Ta’amu NT; Bruce Irvin OLB; Juron Criner WR; Asa Jackson CB; T.J. Graham WR; Shawn Powell P; Bobby Rainey, CB; Josh Chichester TE;
The Jets take a more traditional throwing quarterback to backup Sanchez (or Tebow). They took Greg McElroy last year, but that doesn’t keep them from taking someone of Keenum’s pedigree.
7 38 245 Cleveland Browns (Compensatory Selection)-Gerrell Robinson, WR, Arizona State
Previous picks: Justin Blackmon WR; Nick Perry DE; Doug Martin RB; Brandon Weeden QB, Josh Norman CB; Travis Lewis LB; Bryan Anger P; Marcel Jones T; Tauren Poole RB;
The Browns get another big bodied wide receiver to compete for snaps and to give Colt McCoy has much opportunity to succeed as he can possibly have.
7 39 246 Pittsburgh Steelers (Compensatory Selection)-Travis Benjamin, WR, Miami Hurricanes
Previous picks: Dont’a Hightower LB; LaMichael James RB; Brandon Mosley OT; Brandon Hardin S; DeAngelo Peterson TE; Nick Foles QB; Tashuan Gipson CB; Rishaw Johnson OG;
Travis Benjmain is a speedy threat who could be used as a special teams return guy or a fourth WR.
7 40 247 Cleveland (Compensatory Selection)-Antonio Fenelus, CB, Wisconsin
Previous picks: Justin Blackmon WR; Nick Perry DE; Doug Martin RB; Brandon Weeden QB, Josh Norman CB; Travis Lewis LB; Bryan Anger P; Marcel Jones T; Tauren Poole RB; Gerrell Robinson WR;
Fenelu is a smaller, but extremely competitive and tough cornerback who has good hips. What Fenelus lacks in elite athleticism and height he makes up for with confidence, toughness, and instincts.
7 41 248 Pittsburgh Steelers (Compensatory Selection)-Adrien Cole, LB, Louisiana Tech
Previous picks: Dont’a Hightower LB; LaMichael James RB; Brandon Mosley OT; Brandon Hardin S; DeAngelo Peterson TE; Nick Foles QB; Tashuan Gipson CB; Rishaw Johnson OG; Travis Benjamin, WR
The Steelers add another physical linebacker prospect. Cole is a late round guy because he lacks size and is a modest athlete.
7 42 249 Atlanta Falcons (Compensatory Selection)-Neiko Thorpe, S, Auburn
Previous picks: Josh Robinson, CB, Florida; Cam Johnson DE; Levy Addock, T; Josh LeReibus G;
Neiko Thorpe played at Auburn and is good value here. Thorpe has impressed in the pre-draft process and the Falcons could use some safety depth. Most 7th rounders are special team guys immediately.
7 43 250 San Diego Chargers (Compensatory Selection)-Jacquies Smith, OLB, Missouri
Previous picks: Mark Barron S, Vinny Curry OLB; Mike Martin DL; Chris Rainey Athlete; James Hanna TE; Michael Bewster C;
I have no idea what A.J. Smith plans on doing, but I’m determined to improve their speed on offense and their front seven. Smith is the best player available on PFW Draft value chart and plays a position the Chargers need to improve.
7 44 251 Buffalo Bills (Compensatory Selection)-Sean Cattouse, S, California
Previous picks: Dre Kirkpatrick CB; Amini Silatalou G, Mitchell Schwartz, OL; Ty. Hilton WR; Darius Fleming OLB/DE; Russel Wilson QB; Coyrell Judie CB; Tyler Nielsen LB;
The Bills finally add another safety prospect. Dre Kirkpatrick has safety ability which is why I didn’t focus on the position earlier. They also really like George Wilson and Jarius Byrd and they drafted Da’Norris Searcy last year. They still need one more though.
7 45 252 St. Louis (Compensatory Selection)- Ryan Lindley, QB, San Diego State
Ryan Lindley gives the Rams a developmental QB prospect. Lindley looks the part, but has struggled with accuracy and he’s not a great athlete, which is why he’ll be available on day three.
7 46 253 Indianapolis (Compensatory)-Patrick Edwards, WR, Houston
Previous Selections: Andrew Luck QB; Peter Konz C, Mohamed Sanu WR; Derek Wolfe DL; Oliver Vernon OLB; Mike Daniels DL; Rhett Ellison, TE; Jerry Franklin LB; Brandon Lindsey OLB;
Patrick Edwards is a short, quick wide receiver who was insanely productive at Houston. He had more than 20 touchdowns and was among the college football leaders in all categories. He didn’t run a lot of routes, but he has potential to be a good slot WR and he’s well thought of around the league as a developmental guy.
