2012 NFL Draft: San Diego Chargers Rumored to Have Interest in Trading Up for Mark Barron

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, the Chargers “love” former Alabama All-American safety Mark Barron. Barron is not likely to get past the Dallas Cowboys at 14 overall, so the Chargers likely would have to move up to get him. They are currently slotted 18th, and it was reported by Adam Schefter early on Monday that every team from picks 3 to 16 has expressed some degree of interest in moving down.

If the Chargers are going to move up, some candidates to trade up with include Seattle or Arizona, perhaps Buffalo at 10 but I don’t really see any other teams moving down that far right now unless the Chargers offer a great deal.

Barron would be a perfect fit for the Chargers, who already have Eric Weddle on the back end. A move for Barron would give San Diego the best group of safeties in the AFC West for sure, possibly in the NFL if he develops correctly.

I don’t think it would cost them an arm and a leg to move up for Barron, but it would be a decent sized investment. The Chargers don’t have a huge laundry list of needs, but they do need to improve their defense. Getting Barron would be a big step in the right direction.
