2012 NFL Draft Q&A With Tennessee Titans Blogger Justin Stewart
NFL Mocks is doing interviews with bloggers from all across the FanSided network, and today we have one with the Tennessee Titans blog TitanSized.com and editor Justin Stewart. You can follow them on Twitter @Titan_Sized
1. What are the Titans’ top three needs heading to the draft?
DE, S, and OL. The Titans signed Kamerion Wimbley but will most likely take a DE within the first three or four rounds. They also have a safety that’s only franchise tagged and another aging one.
2. What is Tennessee’s biggest offseason acquisition, and how will it affect draft strategy?
Good question. It’s probably DE Kamerion Wimbley, seems as they only had one DE on the roster and he’ll be starting across from Derick Morgan. G Steve Hutchinson comes in a close second, adding a talented, albeit an old, offensive lineman to help shore up a line that was hurting this past year.
3. Who would you mock to your team in the 1st round right now, realistically?
Realistically, I’d mock them a DE, but I’m not sure who’ll fall there. My guess is DE Nick Perry out of USC.
4. Which player from the class of 2010 is going to break out in 2012?
All eyes are on Derrick Morgan. He was supposed to be the first DE taken in 2010 and fell to the Titans at 16. Everyone is looking at him. There is also CB Alterraun Verner who could really show up this season. I’d expect him to be in the running for the pro bowl roster.
5. Who is your team’s best draft pick since 2002?
Chris Johnson, hands down. Hall of Fame talent who has been a heck of a player. He did have a pretty bad season this last year, but things just weren’t happening with the run game, period.
"6. Which division rival of your team are you most worried about in 2012?"
There’s really only one to be worried about. The Texans. They had a great run, even with a rookie 3rd string QB this last year. They’ve still got all the big pieces that lead to all the success they enjoyed this last season. The AFC South should be between Titans and the Texans.
"7. Which position could your team draft that would surprise everyone, but not your fan base?"
I’m not sure there is a position. The Titans are pretty close to good at every position and could quite honestly draft the BPA. Mocks I’ve done/seen for the Titans have had them taking DT, DE, CB, S, OL, WR, and OLB. There are a lot of directions they could go.
