Texans 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2013

The last time I graded the MTD draft for the Jets I was very impressed. Let’s break this down.

Riley Reiff ends the terrible reign of Wayne Hunter at RT. Reiff is also a top 10 player on our board. Need + Value =A. I’m not in love with George Illoka, but third round is solid value and even with Landry the Jets could improve the safety position. B-. Josh Kaddu seems to be rising on boards even amongst the mockers, he’s right in the same range of where Illoka is (actually within five spots of each other on my board, he also fills a need for the Jets. B- For either of the last two picks a fourth round would be ideal. 3rd round a touch early, fifth round great value. The whole middle of this draft is meh to me. Not bad just not spectacular. That continues with Bergstrom and Franklin both. B-. And now at the end of the draft we’re getting to some players I like a lot more.  I like Robinson, and have him higher on my board than most do it seems, he’s about a 150th so that’s good value to me there and the Jets do need more talent at the WR position (Well maybe not if they are running all wild cat all the time). B+

I absolutely love all three picks in the 7th round. I don’t know what happened to Matt Reynolds to make his stock so useless, but that’s a terrific pick. A. Daniel “Boom” herron is a pretty good pick in the fourth round a great pick in the 7th round. A. Cordarro Law is good value here too, our 169th player. B+

I weigh the top half of the draft more so than the bottom half, but I really liked the 7th round, grabbing an extra 2nd and 3rd next year is icing on the cake. Riley Reiff would be a really good pick for the Jets in the first round. Overall a good job. B+/A-

Oakland Raiders

5th round pick: Demario Davis, OLB.

6th round pick: Miles Burris, OLB

Good picks for Oakland here. This is just brutal that they had no money to sign any free agents and had zero draft picks. Hopefully they can turn this around.

San Diego Chargers:

15. Courtney Upshaw, OLB/DE, Alabama
36. Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
90. Nick Toon, WR, Wisconsin
162. Kheeston Randall, DL, Texas
173. Tauren Poole, RB, Tennessee
181. Trevor Guyton, DL, Cal
211. Adam Gettis, OG, Iowa

There’s no way this draft happens in 2012 because its a San Diego Chargers draft that I agree with-something that has not happened in years!

Upshaw is getting paralysis from analysis. If you loved his tape during the season you should still love him now. He’s Exactly who I thought he was. A guy who doesn’t have an ideal position in the N.F.L. A guy who’s better moving forward then he is backward. But this is a MAN. He’s physical and ready to play now. You hope he’s James Harrison, but we’ll see. Solid pick B. I haven’t mocked Janoris Jenkins in the first round in awhile, but early second round is good value for him. I think the Chargers really need to upgrade their secondary-I was not impressed with it at all when I was watching them play. Good pick. A- I think Nick Toon is a solid number two wide receiver in the N.F.L. The talk of him being a first rounder (thankfully) has completely vanished, but now he’s almost a forgotten man. Solid pick that also fills a need. B-. Kheeston Randall is a player who is better in shorts than he is on the football field, but when you’re taking a guy with the 162nd pick it’s fine to do that. B. I like all three of the last picks, especially the Trevor Guyton pick. I’ve been high on Trevor Guyton all year. When I watch him I see a guy with terrific hustle, functional strength, and versatility. Maybe he’s not great in any facet, but I think he is definitely a guy on your roster you can count on and who can develop into a solid starter. A+ on that pick. I like the Poole pick as well. Pretty good value B+ and a position of need. Good pick on Getits too B.

I usually hate everything the Chargers do in the draft, but I like this. The Upshaw pick isn’t a wow pick, but the draft got pretty good after that. A-
