Jaguars Laurent Robinson Reach Five Year Deal. Brandon Carr and Cowboys Reach Deal Instant Reaction

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reached a 5 year deal worth 32.5 million dollars (potentially). The Robinson deal gives the Jaguars a pretty good savvy wide receiver who has a good combination of size and speed at 6’2 and a 194 pounds. But Robinson is not a number one starter. He’s never had even as much as 900 yards receiving a year and before Robinson’s 11 TD breakout year last year he never had even three touchdowns in a single season. There’s also a huge difference between being the fourth option behind Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and Jason Witten with Tony Romo throwing the ball and being the number one option with Blaine Gabbert throwing you the football. This is a step in the right direction as the Jaguars had to find someone in the free agency market, but I think they are still looking for a number one Wide Receiver.

The Cowboys signing of Brandon Carr was a necessary move, but I don’t think it fixes all of their secondary problems. Carr has spent the last few seasons usually covering the #2 WR in the weak A.F.C. West. He’s now moving into big boy territory. And will be tasked with covering Hakeem Nicks and DeSean Jackson/Jeremy Maclin in division games, which is a big step up. But Carr is a good player and fills a gaping hole for the Cowboys. All in all a good and necessary signing.
