Small School WR Derek Carrier Surprises at Pro Day

Every year, there are some freak players at pro days who just make you turn your head and go, “Huh?”

This year, that player has to be Beloit wide receiver Derek Carrier, who checks in at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds. Not only that, he reportedly ran a sub-4.5 second 40 yard dash and forced teams to make more than “two dozen” requests for game film. Here is SI.com’s Tony Pauline on what went down for Carrier’s pro day performance:

One small school player that turned heads during Wisconsin’s pro day was Beloit receiver Derek Carrier. The three sport athlete (Carrier also played basketball and ran track in college) ran under 4.5-seconds after measuring 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. His other marks included a 40-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump and 6.69 seconds during the three cone run. The three cone time was topped by just one receiver at the combine.

Carrier is more than just a good athlete as the Division III wide out caught 75 passes for 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He left teams scrambling after the workout and received more than two dozen requests for game film from scouts and NFL team officials on hand.

Obviously this guy has had good production, has great size, and is a fantastic athlete. Teams are certainly going to have to go back and look to find out if he is worth using a later round pick on. It would be interesting to see what kind of stuff this kid is capable of on the field.
