Peyton Manning To The Denver Bronco’s? Don’t Count On It
By Bo Martin
The latest speculation in the Peyton Manning drama is that the Denver Bronco’s are interested in acquiring the 35-year-old veteran as their new starting quarterback. While Peyton is an elite quarterback who might be one of the best to ever play the game, it seems highly unlikely he will become a Bronco and Tebow a traded asset.
Peyton Manning runs a very distinct passing offensive and his abilities just don’t fit in the Denver offensive scheme. Denver runs a blue collar, hard nose, and smash mouth rushing offense. This offense hasn’t been built as a pass first offense, which would make it less appealing for Peyton’s consideration. The Bronco’s are also coming off of an unlikely playoff victory against the Steelers and Tim Tebow seemed to improve and create chemistry with his receivers as the season continued on.
While a year ago getting Peyton Manning would have been a dream come true for the Bronco’s organization, the signing now would be too risky. If anyone can honestly say that you would sell a high potential hard working QB for a older QB with elite skill set but aging and with health concerns, I’d say you’re crazy.
The bottom line is pretty clear, the Bronco’s have said that they’re committed to Tebow and they don’t have time to waste in free agency toying with Peyton. They need to start building the team round Tebow’s strengths and the bidding war that could take place on Peyton might take enough time that other top names fall out of the market.
Peyton has plenty in the tank and will still be a force in this league, but his talents won’t be used as the leader of the Denver offense. Whether fans and analysts like it or not, Tebow is the future in Denver and the future is brighter with him than without him.
