NFL Scout Says Future Top Pick Andrew Luck “Is Not Special”

As I was perusing the local Target, I found that already there are two brand new NFL Draft publications on the shelves. One of those magazines is Pro Football Weekly’s draft preview, and the other is Lindy’s. In the Pro Football Weekly issue, there is a section for each position titled, “PFW Audibles” in which they quote pro scouts from across the league about specific players for the up-coming draft.

A lot of these guys that I read about were actually really harsh on some players, but I never thought I’d read what I read about Andrew Luck in this year’s issue:

“Andrew Luck is not special. He’s missing something, and it’s hard to put your finger on it exactly–I’ve talked to other GMs around the league, and there is no one out there who thinks this guy is (Peyton) Manning or (John) Elway. A winner, yes. A game-changer, no. Peyton is special, now. He can carry a team by himself–he’s proven that. He turns average players into Pro Bowlers.”

Permit me to let my jaw drop for a bit, as this is the first time I’ve read anything other than high praise about Stanford’s prized quarterback and guaranteed top selection in the coming draft.

Andrew Luck is NOT a game-changer according to this scout. Wow. That’s pretty bold. I thought I saw a lot of game-changing plays in Luck’s career at Stanford, but to each their own. I have heard previously that Luck is more Matt Ryan than Manning, but to say that he’s not special is pretty bold. I think what makes Luck special is the fact that he’s been so good that it’s almost boring over the last couple years.

For more opinions on other prospects, both good and harsh, you should definitely go check out the PFW Draft Preview at your local Target, Wal Mart, or grocery store. It’s worth a look.
