Would Bart Scott Play for the New York Giants?
Here’s an interesting nugget from Draftinsider.net- a site that is run by Sports Illustrated draft contributor Tony Pauline
The belief amongst most in Indianapolis has Bart Scott of staying put in New York if the Jets choose to cut him and switching locker rooms and helmets to play for the Giants. It would fill a Giants need at linebacker and fill Scott’s hopes to remain in New York.
That’s a peculiar sentiment for a couple of reasons. First is that Scott doesn’t seem to be a typical Tom Coughlin type player (although based on how much everyone this year on the Giants talked, maybe he is) and second what kind of upgrade is Scott over a healthy Jon Goff?
They are nearly the same player, except that Goff will know his teammates much better, knows the system more. Both players struggle in space and in coverage. Scott has no experience in a 43 defense in the N.F.L. and Goff will be cheaper coming off an injury.
It’s not that it might not happen, it’s that it doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me on the surface. Scott is also not a young player, he’ll be 32 before next season starts. It’s a move that makes little sense to me and I think the Giants should save their money and see what Mark hezlich can do or retain Jon Goff cheap.
