NFL Draft News and Notes: John Fox Wants More Competition for Tim Tebow
I’ve decided I have to think of a better name for the news and notes series other than “news and Notes”. Former Editor Jon Dove use to call this series first round links, which isn’t bad, but I’m trying to think of something original. I’ll figure something out. Anyway enjoy these stories from around the web.
According to a Denver Post story John Fox wants two quarterbacks to compete with Tim Tebow next year.
While Tebow is the Broncos’ starting quarterback, the team is expected to acquire two new quarterbacks this offseason.
“Numbers wise that’s accurate,” Broncos coach John Fox said Monday over a team cafeteria lunch of barbecue chicken and macaroni and cheese. “Who, what, where, when, what market — it’s still way too early how we get those quarterbacks.”
“He’s going to come into our camp as the starting quarterback,” Fox said of Tebow. “He’s young. He can get better.”
Fox endorsed Tebow working out with UCLA quarterbacks coach Noel Mazzone the past week or so. NFL players cannot meet with their own coaches until April 16.
Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will no longer have competing Pro Days. Baylor has moved their proday back one day to March 22nd.
Here’s an interview with Lousiana Lafeytte Tight End Ladarius Green
“I just want to be there, I want to be the best,” he added.
Green’s combination of size, athleticism, and big-play ability draw him comparisons to many of the biggest playmakers at tight end in the NFL. Green said that he could not compare himself to any NFL tight ends, “because they’re all great, and that’s why they’re in the NFL right now.”
Green sounds like he has a great head on his shoulders. Wish him all the luck.
NEpatriots draft takes a look at the players who have the most to gain or lose.
Darron Thomas, QB, Oregon
Thomas has a lot to prove just to get drafted. There’s a relatively short period of time between the season ending and the combine to get comfortable under center and show that you can survive in a pro-style offense. Thomas was also such a surprise addition to the Draft that many teams likely weren’t looking at him as hard as many other QBs during the college season.
Marvin Jones, WR, Cal
My favorite prospect in this draft told me he ran a 4.44 electric timed 40 this weekend “with a bad start” in preparation for the combine. If that number holds true, he could vault himself even higher, potentially into the middle of the second round. If that speed isn’t there, teams might lose a bit of interest, but I’m sure they’ll still be impressed with his hands during WR drills.
Jared Crick, DE, Nebraska
Crick missed most of his senior season due to a torn pectoral muscle. Missing his senior year will certainly hurt his stock, but if he can come into the combine showing the same skills he displayed throughout his Cornhuskers career, he could rebound some of that stock.
Tony Pauline of Sports Illustarted and draftinsider.net has updated his top 50 players for the 2012 NFL Draft
Pauline is another one who has Kendall Wright very high on his big Board.
