2012 NFL Mock Draft Updated 3 Round Mock Draft
16. New York Jets: Michael Floyd, WR, Norte Dame
The Jets need a pass protector, pass rusher, and pass catcher. They could also look running back here. In fact they could look at any position on the team. They could add in another linebacker to replace Bart Scott in the middle. They could look at safety which they need. They could add any position, a real wild card in the draft. RT is the biggest need, but in this mock they have to reach to do that.
17. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland): Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia
The Bengals also need to improve their running game like the Jets. The difference is they could grab a player who has G/T versatility (better as a guard) and play him inside. Glenn is huge and powerful at the point of attack. The Bengals would love to see David DeCastro available I believe.
18. San Diego Chargers: Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina
The Chargers need a pass rusher and Ingram could be their guy. But who knows I never can get a beat on what player the Chargers will fall in love with.
19. Chicago Bears: Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina
I think Zach Brown was made for the Bears defense. He would be an absolutely perfect fit. He also is probably the BPA to me. He has uncommon ability. Could the Bears find somewhere to play them on their defense or is he too much like Lance Briggs?
20. Tennessee Titans: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor Bears
Wright is the blazing player they need opposite Kenny Britt for Jake Locker. In all honest, I’m not the biggest Kendall Wright fan and prefer him in round two, I’m just not the biggest believe that he’s the next DeSean Jackson. But N.F.L. scouts seem to love him so he goes here in the first round.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
Dennard was getting some mixed reviews before his injury sidelined him at the Senior Bowl. He’s had two years in a row of solid to really good tape so someone could still take a shot at him in the first round.
22. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta): Doug Martin, RB, Boise State
Seems like a reach, but the other running backs available here: Lamar Miller and David Wilson I’m not sure can take the pounding. I like Wilson, but I also like Martin a lot. I don’t think he’s a first rounder but Russ Lande had him mocked in the first round so maybe he knows something we don’t. Martin was also by far and away the best running back prospect at the Senior Bowl. Martin could be the next Maurice Jones Drew. A good 40 time could get him in the first round.
23. Detroit Lions-Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College
This pick would make a lot less sense if the Lions happen to resign Stephen Tulloch, but as of right now he’s scheduled to be a free agent. If the Lions don’t resign Tulloch they’ll have a big hole in the middle of the field. Kuechly doesn’t have terrific size or athletic ability, but he is a terrific player. He’s exactly the kind of tough, but poised leader the Lions need on defense.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Devon Still, DL, Penn State
I just have a feeling that the Steelers are adding your defensive talent in the first round this year. Their defense is old, plain and simple. It’s old up front, it’s old at linebacker, and it’s older in the secondary as well.
25. Denver Broncos: Alameda Ta’amu, DL, Washington Huskies
Ta’amu to me is a gap penetrating 43 DT he just happens to be massive. Ta’amu could give the Broncos some serious teeth up front.
26. Houston Texans: Mark Barron, S, Alabama Crimson Tide
The Texans are so talented on both sides of the ball they should really just draft the best player available. he Texans seem to really, really value and emphasize character which is why Barron seems like a good fit to me. Just a smart, instinctive, productive player. I also don’t love the Texans safeties so Barron could make this defense one step closer to being special.
27. New England Patriots (from New Orleans): Kelechi Osmele, G/T, Iowa State
We’re going to see this weekend if the Patriots are going to decide whether or not to totally overhaul their offensive line. Everyone has been mocking defense to the Patriots for good reason, and if they handle the Giants this Sunday I’ll be back on the defense train.
28. Green Bay Packers: Stephon Gilmore, DB, South Carolina
I love Gilmore and think he’s becoming undervalued. Gilmore can play cornerback and possibly even safety. I know that Packers fans think they have enough talent at cornerback, but with how quick the Packers score and how often they play teams running 3 and 4 WR sets they could use more. The other pick that makes a lot of sense here is USC DL/OLB Nick Perry.
29. Baltimore Ravens: Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State University
Super Talented, needs to play more disciplined and smarter. Burfict could really ease the transtion from Ray Lewis after Lewis retires in a few years.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis
You can never have too many defensive linemen. I don’t think their NT is special either. Perhaps Poe can be a Special NT. I think 49ers fans want to see a WR here and Mohamed Sanu would look good, but what if it’s not the WR talent and it’s the QB? Also teams almost always address their most immediate need in free agency and the one position FA in strong at this year is WR. I expect the 49ers to have addressed that before the draft.
31. New England Patriots: Nick Perry, DL, USC
The ideal Patriots pick. You’re running a 43? No problem, Perry can rush with his hand down. Oh, now it’s a 34? No problem. Perry can rush standing up. Perry could push his stock much higher than this as well because he has a lot of physical ability.
32. New York Giants: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson Tigers
The Giants have Jake Ballard who came on strong at the beginning of the season, but has kind of faded into forgotten land in the second half of the season and in the run to the playoffs. I think the Giants will NOT draft Allen. I think they’ll feel content with Ballard and Travis Beckum, who has picked up in the playoffs, but they should consider drafting Allen. Ballard is big and slow and quite frankly a worse blocker than he should be. Allen is big, quick, fast, and a plus blocker. Adding Allen could give them the weapons to be comparable to the Packers and Saints in terms of offensive talent.
