Tennessee Titans Off Season To Do List: Titans need to get the Run Game Going
By Editorial Staff
Tennessee Titans off Season Check List
2011 Outcome (9-7)
The Titans were a surprise team this season. It was wise of the team to aggressively pursue Matt Hasselbeck to help the team in the present and tutor Jake Locker for the future. The Titans passing game and defense was solid…but what held the Titans back was the run game. Whether it was from a RB who lost interest once he got paid or the lack of talent on the interior OL the run game was largely ineffective. The answer as usual lies somewhere in the middle.
Coach Seat Temperature
MikeMunchek did a remarkable job for a first time HC who had a shortened off season. It helped that he was so familiar with the Titans organization. GM Reinsfeldt did him a favor that he did not do for Fischer…get him a solid QB. OC Palmer and DC Gray both did solid jobs and will be back next season as well.
2011 Draft Class Rating (A-)
In Reinsfeldt’s first draft without Fischer he really established himself. Jake Locker appears to be the QB of the future. Linebackers Colin McCarthy and Akeem Ayers appear to be keepers. DT Jurrell Casey was a disrupting force in the middle. Karl Klug is a very good rotational DL as well. Any draft you can get 5 contributing players is a good haul.
2010 Draft Class Rating (D+)
Derrick Morgan health and play have been less than stellar. He is heading towards being a bust if he cannot improve. WR Damian Williams and CB Alteraun Verner aren’t stars but they are solid players. Besides those two this draft was nothing to brag about.
2009 Draft Class Rating (C)
Jared Cook is an emerging TE and Jason McCourtney is a rock solid CB and if Kenny Britt can stay healthy he is a big play WR. If Britt cannot stay healthy he joins a lot of other players who have been disappointments.
Current Needs
Offense: WR, OG, C
Defense: DE, OLB, CB, S
Current FA
Jason Jones: Jones is a very disrupting DT who can create pressure. He is under sized and might best be served in a rotation. Look for him to seek greener pastures.
Courtland Finnegan: Finnegan is a very sound CB who excels in disrupting WR’s routes. He is also solid verse the run. His biggest problem is himself and he might not be worth the head ache for the Titans who have young talent at CB.
Michael Griffin: Griffin is one of the more athletic Safeties in the NFL. He is a force verse the run and is usually solid in coverage. He has some consistency issues from time to time but the Titans cannot afford to lose him.
Current Mock
1. Peter Konz C Wisconsin
2. Josh Robinson CB CFlorida
3. Alemeda Ta’Amu DT Washington
4. Nigel Bradham OLB FSU
