Brandon Boykin Injures Leg
By Bo Martin
The Senior Bowl has created quite the stir at the cornerback position. Players have vastly increased their stock and you could make an argument that everyone in the top 10 could be selected in the second round of the NFL draft. Cornerback has become a highly sought after position in the last few years as some teams are finding themselves in aging situations and with significant depth concerns now that we have fallen into this very pass-happy league.
Unfortunately, one of my fastest risers on the board, Brandon Boykin, Suffered a leg injury during the Senior Bowl. Boykin reportedly hurt his leg on a special teams return in the second quarter. Boykin has been creating a buzz at the Senior Bowl this week with his physical, smart, and versatile play.
Early reports listed Boykin as suffering a broken or fractured leg but Boykin’s twitter said that the injury is not that serious and he expected to be back in playing shape in 3 weeks. The Combine will be huge for Boykin who is projected as a 2-3 round pick but has all the potential to round out the first round. Unfortunately, guys like Casey Hayward and Jemel Flemming have created a name for themselves as well and Boykin could take a hit in draft value if these guys continue to impress while Boykin has to heal.
All in all, I don’t see this really driving his stock low, there is enough tape on the guy to know what kind of player you’re really getting. The important thing is that Boykin doesn’t rush back from the injury and re-aggravate it forcing more of a recovery time. Boykin is too physical to be trying to cover without being at full strength.
