Philadelphia Eagles off Season Check List

2011 Outcome            (8-8)

The Eagles season would be under the microscope all season long after Vince Young deemed this team, “The Dream Team.”  I imagine Andy Reid regretted signing him at that exact moment.  The Eagles slow start doomed their season.  Injuries, poor tackling, and inconsistent play of the offensive line were reasons for the Eagles demise.  The Eagles did end the season strong once Michael Vick returned from injury and there is plenty to be excited about next season.

Coach Seat Temperature

There was never any chance Reid would be fired after this season.  If he has a similar season next year than their might be a chance.  Reid is a great coach and I think his success speaks for himself.  OC Marty Morningwheg is a lock to return but DC spot might be changed.  Though with many prominent DC already hired, the possibility is lowered.

2011 Draft Class Rating        (C)

This draft was okay in the terms of depth but short of star power.  Danny Watkins appears to be a very sound OG but his age is a problem for a rookie.  Jarrett and Cash are development prospects in the secondary but did nothing in year 1.  Casey Matthews was benched early and might be too small to be a starter in the NFL.  Brian Rolle was a surprising starter on the WLB as was Jason Kelce at center.  The rest of the class brought decent depth.

2010 Draft Class Rating        (D)

This class had a ton of picks and a ton of misses.  Brandon Graham has been sidelined with injuries and might not be the player he once was.  Nate Allen is a solid starting safety.  Jamar Chancey and Kurt Coleman were nice late round pickups but too many mid round misses doomed this class.

2009 Draft Class Rating        (B+)

Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy were major hits.  Next season Maclin should step up and become the Eagles #1 WR and McCoy is a Pro Bowl RB.  The rest of the class isn’t much to brag about but 2 major talents make this a hit.

Current Needs

Offense: WR (If Jackson leaves), OL

Defense: DT, MLB, OLB, CB, S

Current FA

DeSean Jackson: Jackson is a major deep threat and Kick Return monster but is too much of a one trick pony and is a major distraction.  He will get paid this off season but I do not think it will be by the Eagles.
