Seattle Seahawks Off Season To Do List: Seattle a Dark Horse for Manning?

Seattle Seahawks off Season Check List

2011 Outcome            (7-9)

Pete Carroll has done a commendable job with this group.  The Seahawks are a very physical offense who prides themselves in the run game.  Their defense shuts down the run and has a young group of big, physical secondary players.  This team only needs a quarterback and some young pass rushers to compete with anyone in the NFL.  I think 7-9 and a playoff push was a successful 2011 season.  More is to be expected next year though.  Though the media has not picked up on it yet I think the Seahawks are players for Manning.  They play in favorable weather conditions, they have a weaker conference, and have a very under rated roster.

Coach Seat Temperature

Pete Carroll is loved inSeattle.  He is as cool as the other side of the pillow…for now.  If the Seahawks regress than it might be a different situation.  Carroll needs to upgrade the QB spot if he is to secure future job security because Taveris Jackson will one day get him canned.  OC Bevell and DC Bradley should be back next season.

2011 Draft Class Rating        (B+)

After the first round pick this class had solid depth. JamesCarpenter was showing signs of being a starter but there is no excuse for taking him over Gabe Carimi and Derrek Sherrod.  If anything trade back if that is your player.  John Moffitt might be a Pro Bowl OG one day.  KJ Wright and Richard Sherman look like young studs on the defense.  Everyone else is a risk of being cut.

2010 Draft Class Rating        (B+)

This class needs Okung to stay healthy.  Russell Okung has the makings of an elite LT but has had numerous ankle issues.  Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor combine to give the Seahawks a Pro Bowl safety tandem.  Golden Tate and Walter Thurmound have talent but must become more consistent and dedicate themselves to their craft.  The rest are mediocre players.

2009 Draft Class Rating        (F)

Fail….can you believe there were people in Detroit who wanted Aaron Curry over Matthew Stafford???  Max Unger has versatility and talent but is injury prone.  This whole class might be cut from Seattle soon.

Current Needs

Offense: QB, RB, C

Defense: DE, DT, CB

Current FA

Marshawn Lynch:  Marshawn Lynch has been the number 1 playmaker forSeattle the past two seasons.  It is unknown what kind of money he wants but if it isn’t Peterson type moneySeattle should resign him.  The only reason for concern is his work ethic once he gets paid.

David Hawthorne:  Who would have known Hawthorne would be better than Tatupula and Curry?   Hawthorne is a complete MLB who excels in all phases of the game.

Marcus Trufant:  Trufant is on the wrong side of thirty and he has been injury prone as of late.  With his talents eroding Seattle should stick with their younger players and allow him to move elsewhere.  He still is a solid #2 CB.
