Kansas City Chiefs Off Season To Do List: Crennell a better fit than Haley

Kansas City Chiefs off Season Check List
2011 Outcome (7-9)
The start of the 2011 Season went horribly wrong for the Chiefs. Losing Jamal Charles, Eric Berry, and Tony Moeaki to season ending injuries depleted them of star power. They were 0-3 after blowouts to the Bills and Lions and it appeared a chase for the #1 pick was inevitable. Then the Chiefs went on a 4 game win streak and appeared to be in the lead for the AFC West…than a 4 game losing streak followed by the firing of Todd Haley. Romeo Crennell salvaged the season and earned the HC position.
Coach Seat Temperature
Crennell did an amazing job as DC and earned the players trust. Due to that and how well the team performed since he was the intern coach he was given a 3 year deal. I think Crennell is the right man for this team. Pioli and Haley did not see eye to eye and it cost the franchise. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs bring in a DC and if they keep Bill Muir as the OC.
2011 Draft Class Rating (B-)
This class is up in the air. They had inconsistent seasons but showed if they can continue to develop this will be a very sound class. Baldwinshowed talent but his own personal problems and lack of respect limited him. Rodney Hudson should be able to take over the center position next year. Justin Houston showed at the end of the season he can be a real pass rushing threat. Allen Bailey showed flashes of skill and needs another season to develop. Everyone else will struggle to keep a roster spot.
2010 Draft Class Rating (B)
This class has had some injury problems but if they can move on it will be another solid Pioli draft. Eric Berry missed almost the entire year but he is on his way to being a dominant safety. McCluster and Arenas are solid depth players who have their uses. Asamoah is going to be a solid LG and if Moeaki can recover from injury he is a solid all around TE. Kendrick Lewis is a solid young FS who needs to become more consistent.
2009 Draft Class Rating (F)
This class was filled with reaches and misses. Tyson Jackson is an okay 5 technique but not nearly worth the 3rd pick of the draft. Alex Magee was traded for a 5th Round pick. Ryan Succop is a solid kicker and the rest of the selections are near the end of their NFL careers.
Current Needs
Offense: QB, RB, TE, RT,
Defense: NT, DL, ILB
Current FA
Dwayne Bowe: Dwayne Bowe is a very solid WR whose numbers are limited by the offense he is in. Chiefs should try to retain him but it is unknown if he wants to come back.
Brandon Carr: Brandon Carr is almost as good as Brandon Flowers. He is rock solid in all phases of the game and is very consistent in his technique and tackling. Chiefs will want him back but he might receive higher offers from other teams.
Current Mock
1. Riley Reiff OT Iowa
2. Josh Chapman NT Alabama
3. Orson Charles TE Georgia
4. Terrence Ganaway RB/FB Baylor
