Pros:
two way defender who can play the run and the pass…Solid size and length…plus athletic ability…has been fairly productive and disruptive…versatile for the Mountaineers…good motor…could be a guy you drop in coverage every once in awhile
Cons:
Not an elite caliber defender in any category…doesn’t explode off the snap or around the corner…lacks ideal awareness..needs to improve his leverage…needs to improve pass rush repertoire
Player comparison:
Dave Tollefson, New York Giants
Round Projection:
5th or 6th
Thoughts:
Miller isn’t a great prospect, but he’s solid. He has good size, not great size. He gets of the ball fairly well, but not great. He plays the run well, but not great. He can do a lot of different things on the field fairly well. He’s just not dyanamic. I compare him to Dave Tollefson because they are similar size, and play the same way. Tollefson is a guy who isn’t going to ever start for the Giants, but he’s not a liability when he plays. He gets 4 or so sacks every year and chips in on special teams and in the run game. This can be Julian Miller. If he learns a counter move to his get around the edge ability he could be a nice situational player and spot starter in the league.
Bio:
Julian Miller is a senior defensive end coming into his fourth straight year of starting. After two starts as a freshman, Miller burst onto the scene as a sophomore where he was named 2nd Team All Big East after he had 53 tackles, nine sacks, and 14 tackles for a loss. As a junior, he nearly repeated that season exactly, totaling 54 tackles, nine more sacks, and 14 more tackles for a loss. He is a very underrated, consistent defensive end prospect that could be a solid second day pick, if he ups his game a little bit in 2011 and gets himself into the double-digit sack totals. Consistency is the name of the game for him, and if he can keep it up for three straight years, I see no reason why he can’t be starting in the NFL soon.
