2012 NFL Mock Draft Houston Texans
The Houston Texans had universally one of the best drafts of last season immediately after the draft. J.J. Watt has played immediate dividends and Tyler Yates the QB drafted in the 5th round has been useful as a replacement for Schuab and Matt Leinart.
Will they have the same kind of success this year?
I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong Texans fans-that the Texans have all of their picks. Right now the Texans would be picking in the mid twenties.

1st round: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor Bears
Kendall Wright is an excellent complement to Andre Johnson at wide receiver. Wright has sure hands, makes a ton of catches at Baylor and has blazing speed. The speed of Wright could force teams to ocassionally leave Johnson’s side in single coverage. A combination of Wright and Johnson could be lethal.
2nd round: Josh Chapman, NT, Alabama
I’m personally not the biggest Josh Chapman fan, but if teams want nose tackles they have to reach a bit. Chapman is a massive lane clogger and even though Wade Phillips system didn’t rely on that in Dallas, when he was with Buffalo they had some mammoth Defensive linemen. The Texans defense has done really well this year despite not having great players in their front three.
3rd round: Tommy Streeter, WR, Miami Hurricanes
Does it seem crazy to take two wide receivers in the first three rounds when you have Andre Johnson? Maybe. But the two leading WR on the Texans this year are Owen Daniels and Arian Foster. That’s just awful. This is also a value risk/reward pick. Streeter has terrific upside, but needs to improve on the little thing. Andre Johnson has trouble staying healthy, and now if he’s out at least the Texans offense can continue to throw the ball to the wideouts.
4th round Trevor Guyton, DL, California Golden Bears
The Texans have Jonathan Joseph and the young picks of Kareem Jackson and Brandon Harris at the cornerback position, so I can’t see them going cornerback early in this draft. Guyton is one of my favorite underpublicized players. He’s not an elite prospect, but he should be a very solid defensive linemen who is versatile and will contribute to a N.F.L. team. He might not ever be a dominant starter, but can be very effective rotational player if he’s not a starter.
5th Round: Trenton Robinson, S, Michigan State
an undersized safety prospect who could be considered as a cornerback in some systems. The Texans pass defense is statistically one of the best in the league this year (3rd in yards per game). But I don’t think their safeties are anything special. Robinson has plus coverage ability though he lacks size. Is he a poor man’s Earl Thomas?
6th round: Lonnie Edwards, Texas Tech
The Texans have been greatin their run game and the quarterbacks haven’t taken too many sacks, which would indciate impressive line play, but you can never have too much depth at the offensive line positions.
7th Round: Kevin Kroger, TE, Michigan
This again might be a little too low for Kroger, but I think it’s definitely in the realm of possibility that he’s available here. I believe Joel Dreesen is a free agent as is Derrick Ward so I think at some point the Texans could look at a developmental TE or running back prospect because they have the starters all set. Kroger has some pass catching ability and can develop into a nice blocker.
