Indianapolis Colts Off Season Check List
2011 Outcome
The 2011 season was over the moment Peyton Manning could not play. Peyton Manning had masked the personnel problems the Colts had. A String of bad drafts had left the Colts vulnerable at offensive line, lack of young play makers on offense, and a defense that was just plain bad. The good news is the Colts won the jackpot with Andrew Luck!!! Now what to do with Manning….stay tuned true believers.
Coach Seat Temperature
The Colts have already fired DC Larry Coyer and now Polian and Son are no longer running the team. Jim Caldwell still has a job but he should not feel too comfortable. I think at the very least OC, Clyde Christensen, gets shown the door andCaldwellgets a new staff. If I had to guess thoughCaldwellis gone.
2011 Draft Class Rating (B)
It is always hard to judge a draft class after one year. That being said there is some hope from this class. Anthony Costanzo and Benjamin Ijalana did not have a great impact in year 1 do to some injuries but should be day 1 starters next season. Drake Nevis showed some flashes of being a solid DT starter and Delone Carter should be a solid rotational RB. Even Chris Rucker showed potential to be a solid depth CB.
2010 Draft Class Rating (F)
This class is a complete miss so far. Jerry Hughes looks like a bust with 1 sack in two years. Pat Angerer is solid but not special at SLB. All other picks are cut or buried on the depth chart waiting to be cut.
2009 Draft Class Rating (C)
This class was hit or miss. Donald Brown shows talent but is far too inconsistent for a 3rd year player. Fili Moala is a mediocre starter who should be a depth player. Jerraud Powers is a very good but injury prone CB. Auston Collie is a solid slot WR who is also an injury risk. All others are cut or buried on depth chart.
Current Needs
Offense: QB, WR, OT, OG, C
Defense: DE, DT, OLB, CB, SS
Current FA
Reggie Wayne: Wayne still has a year or two left of being a solid #2 WR. I think the Colts need to resign him or the below mentioned player.
Pierre Garcon: Garcon is a very talented deep threat who is hard to predict. I think his familiarity with the team and his youth make him a must resign player for the Colts.
Jeff Saturday: Saturday is the heart and sole of this team. He is winding down a very solid career and should be brought back for one more year to teach his replacement the ins and outs of the NFL.
Current Mock
1. Andrew Luck QB Stanford
2. Cordy Glenn OG Georgia
3. Casey Hayward CB Vanderbilt
