2012 Fantasy Article: Keeper League Targets Quarterback
By Editorial Staff
It is the end of the fantasy season for many people. Most fantasy leagues simply start over and there is little bearing from one season to the next. For those in keeper leagues the off season is a strenuous, constant struggle of who to keep from your own roster and who to let go. Lets ponder some possible candidates and take an early look at the keepers.
QB
Tom Brady: Unless he gets injured in the playoffs he is a no-brainer. He is good for over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns each season. I also believe the Patriots will get him some young wide receivers in this draft which will only add to his effectiveness.
Peyton Manning: I doubt anyone will keep him with the up coming uncertainty. I acknowledge his potential for elite numbers but he was already slowly dropping in fantasy drafts before the extent of his injury was known.
Ben Roethlisberger: If you are desperate in 2 quarterback league than keep him, otherwise you can do better. Big Ben is a solid play but not elite, must have player, he simply does not throw enough TD’s.
Tim Tebow: Fantasy owners have loved Tebow this year. It is like having two players for the price of one. He has okay passing statistics but also gives you consistent running back stats. If the Broncos make the playoffs and Tebow can compete in the post season I say go for it….but keeping him is a risky move.
Phillip Rivers: Rivers has had a down year by his standards. That said there is no reason to believe he will have another bad season. I think he is on the borderline of keeping. My input for people not keeping him is this: Who are you going to get that is better?
Tony Romo: See Rivers statements. Romo made major strides this season keeping the turnovers to a minimum.
Eli Manning: Manning is a borderline keeper. My problem with Manning is he has hit his ceiling and he has had back to back years with massive amounts of turnovers. I would not feel completely comfortable keeping him. That said he has young playmakers and should get some OL help this off season.
Michael Vick: Drop ship on him. Sure, when he is healthy he helps out but like Run DMC those days are few and far between. His age is catching up on him and his playing style.
Aaron Rogers: Need you ask? 4,500 yards and over 30 TD’s are guaranteed unless he gets injured.
Matt Ryan: Ryan has really picked up his pace since Julio Jones has come aboard. I would watch to see if Gonzalez is coming back…if not he might have slightly less efficient season. Still, I think Ryan is going to post larger numbers with Jones and White being an unstoppable duo.
Drew Brees: Come on man, no way you drop him. Unless Chuck Norris wants to play for the Saints Brees is the number 1 fantasy player.
Cam Newton: I think you have to bank on Newton keeping this pace up. A rookie QB throwing for 4,000 yards and running for over 10 rushing touchdowns???? He is what people thought Vick could be….except a much better passer.
Matthew Stafford: You have the next young franchise QB in the NFL. I posed the question to experts asking if they felt Stafford was elite? Most said not yet but I asked a 23 year old QB who throws for near 5,000 yards, 40 touchdowns, under 15 interceptions at the moment and leads the DETROIT LIONS TO THE POST SEASON is not regarded as borderline elite????? Getting off subject, do not drop Stafford.
